Helena civil litigation law firm with nine lawyers and current support staff of six seeks experienced legal assistant for senior partner.  Job duties include:

  • Keep cases organized by establishing and organizing physical and electronic files; process incoming and outgoing mail; calendar and tickle deadlines; meet deadlines; document actions; confirm case status with attorney; schedule other meetings and travel of attorney; communicate regularly with attorney about schedule.
  • Help develop cases by maintaining contact with people involved in the case; request client information from clients and third parties; schedule depositions; prepare and forward summonses and subpoenas.
  • Keep clients informed by maintaining contact; communicating case progress.
  • Support case preparation by transcribing dictated pleadings, motions, briefs, affidavits, exhibits and orders and formatting such attorney typed documents, communications and chronologies; draft simple motions, proposed orders and discovery request/response documents; organizing and Bates number documents to be produced in discovery; organize materials for case review.
  • Support trial proceedings by helping to preparing jury instructions; helping to prepare and organize exhibits; schedule witnesses; ensure that witnesses are ready when needed; operate trial software and electronic display of exhibits at trial.  

Skills and Qualifications:

Administration Skills, Familiarity with state and federal rules of civil procedure and local court rules; Experience with civil litigation, ability to maintain client relationships, Organization skills, Planning skills, Attention to Detail, Dependability, Client Confidentiality.

Pay between $21 and $25 per hour DOE; 3% 401 K contribution; pay adjustment to allow purchase of bronze plan level health coverage possible if needed; performance related bonuses.
